Abstrak

As a person gets older, a person will experience aging and result in the body's vulnerability to various diseases, causing the prescription of drugs in large quantities. This increases the possibility of drug interactions. Diabetes Mellitus is a disease or chronic metabolic disorder with multiple etiologies characterized by high blood sugar levels accompanied by impaired carbohydrate, lipid and protein metabolism as a result of insulin function insufficiency. Geriatric patients with diabetes mellitus are usually accompanied by comorbidities. Each disease usually requires a combination of two or more kinds of drugs, so that it can lead to the occurrence of drug interactions. This study aims to describe the number and percentage of potential drug interactions in geriatric patients with Diabetes Mellitus in Hospital X for the period January-March 2022. This study used a quantitative descriptive method. The data collection technique used a total sampling technique with a total of 434 samples. The samples used were taken from all prescriptions containing antidiabetic drugs in geriatric patients with Diabetes Mellitus over the age of 45 years. The results of this study were 123 prescription sheets experienced drug interactions. The most drug interactions were between Metformin and Amlodipin, namely 55.83%. The most severe level of drug interaction is moderate 85.28%.
