Abstract

Tuberculosis (TB) remains a serious global public health burden, including in Indonesia, which continues to face high prevalence. Although effective TB treatment is available, patient adherence to completing long-term therapy often poses a major challenge, particularly in developing regions. This study specifically aims to examine the relationship between the role of family support and treatment adherence levels among TB patients residing in Penggilingan Subdistrict, East Jakarta. The applied research methodology was quantitative with a correlational design. A total of 63 respondents diagnosed with TB participated in this study. Data collection was conducted using a structured questionnaire designed to gather demographic information and measure the level of family support perceived by the patients. The main findings of the study revealed that overall, TB treatment adherence at the study site was classified as low. Among the total respondents, 28 individuals (44.4%) fell into the low adherence category, while only 21 individuals (33.3%) demonstrated high adherence; the remainder were in the moderate category. Preliminary analysis using the Kolmogorov-Smirnov Normality Test yielded a significance value of p = 0.007 (less than α = 0.05), indicating that the research data distribution was not normal. Consequently, the relationship analysis was performed using the Spearman Rho Correlation Test. The results of this test showed no statistically significant relationship between the family support variable and TB treatment adherence, with a p-value of 0.498 (greater than α = 0.05). The study conclusion affirms that although family support is theoretically an important factor in managing chronic diseases like TB, within the specific context and timeframe of this research, family support was not statistically proven to have a direct influence on patient adherence to treatment. This finding highlights the complexity of adherence determinants that extend beyond family support alone. Therefore, more holistic and comprehensive intervention strategies are required. Efforts to enhance awareness and in-depth knowledge about TB, targeting not only patients but also involving all family members and their social environment, constitute a crucial aspect to be promoted in order to improve the overall success of TB treatment within the community.
