Abstract

Hypertension is a disease that is often undetected in its early stages, earning it the title "silent disease." Adherence to antihypertensive medication is crucial for the effective management of hypertension. This study aims to analyze the role of family in improving adherence to antihypertensive medication among hypertensive patients in Penggilingan Village, East Jakarta. This research employed a quantitative design with a correlational approach, involving 194 respondents who were purposively selected. Data were collected using questionnaires on medication adherence and family role, which were then analyzed using the chi-square test. The results showed that the majority of hypertensive patients (90%) had good adherence to medication, while 10% were non-adherent. Analysis using Spearman's rho revealed a significant relationship between family role and medication adherence (rho = 0.460, p-value = 0.000), indicating that the greater the family support, the higher the patient's adherence. Additionally, education and employment also had a significant impact on adherence, although the influence was not as strong as that of the family role. The chi-square test results indicated no significant relationship between gender and medication adherence (p-value = 0.395), suggesting that gender does not affect medication adherence in hypertensive patients
